Week 14

As I mentioned yesterday, week 14 has been very interesting to say the least.  We had a very big scare on Sunday.  Everything is fine with the baby, but apparently I have to be way more careful.

Michael and I were going to go to Fort Smith Sunday to take my car to sale at my Mom’s shop, but first decided to go vacuum out the car at the local car wash and then run to Lowe’s to pick up some paint for the baby’s room.  Everything was going great.  We ate breakfast, donuts and milk, and then headed out.  I felt perfectly fine while helping Michael vacuum the car even though it was hot it wasn’t too bad.

We then headed to Lowe’s.  We were standing at the paint counter waiting for the cans to be mixed when I started to feel funny.  It started out as I thought I was going to lose my breakfast.  I was moving around and talking to Michael about how I don’t feel so good.  Maybe I should go outside, just in case I puke.  He could tell something was wrong.  The next thing I said to Michael was I think I am going to faint.  I have NEVER fainted in my life.  Michael grabbed my arm and had me lean against the counter.  About that time everything went black and I woke up on the floor.  As I came back, I was confused and I was having trouble hearing Michael due to the crazy ringing in my ears.  I was so embarrassed to be on the floor in the middle of Lowe’s.  I was very thankful I said something to Michael who caught me and laid me down on the ground.  Could have been uglier if I had just fallen.  I was scared.  I kept saying the baby what about the baby.  Michael and I were going to leave Lowe’s and go to the ER, but I texted a doctor friend and talked to my Mom.  They both made me feel better that apparently it isn’t so uncommon for pregnant women to faint.  My mom told me she did it and later one of my friend’s told me she had also done it a few times.

As we were driving home, poor Michael had to pull over so I could lose my breakfast.  He was hanging on to my arm and leg, so afraid I would faint out of the car.  I called the doctor Sunday night and left a message for the nurse.  She called me first thing in the morning Monday.  At first she wanted me to come into the office right away, and then after I told her my breakfast and two hours later I faint.  She decided it was probably just a drop in my blood sugar.  She spoke with the doctor who agreed, but they gave me a number to call if it happens again.  Apparently I should have called the on call doctor, but I didn’t have that number and now I do.  I am to eat a protein every two hours and drink lots of water.  The heat on top of the lack of a healthy breakfast was not good for my body.  I have to be very careful to keep my blood sugar up and she recommended I carry something sugary or nuts in my purse just in case it happens again.

At the very least, I now know the signs and will be better prepared to find a seat on the ground if I should feel this way again.

Traveling Pregnant

This last week has by far been the most interesting.  I had a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday.  It was a simple check up.  I got to listen to the baby’s heartbeat, which was fabulous.  It took the doctor a long time to find the heartbeat, and once she found it the baby didn’t stay still for long.  I guess we have a very active little one.  The few minutes it took her to find it felt like forever.  It was a little stressful until I finally heard it.  The baby’s heart was beating at 156 bpm.

Wednesday, I was traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC for work.  I was really excited about getting some time away, and having a view of the ocean.  My SIL and nephew came down and stayed at the hotel with me which was wonderful and so much fun.  Three days of work and fun with them.  It was a great mini get away.  I got to make some great connection for work and enjoy the pool a little too.  Gabe, my nephew, was so much fun to play with and watch play.  Here are a few pictures of our down time.

Friday was my day from hell.  I was suppose to fly out at 2:30 and be home by 5:30.  My first flight was fine.  My connection is where all hell broke out.  I was flying US Airways, which is not my typical air travel choice, but American Airlines does not go into Myrtle Beach and the closest they went was 2 hours away.  I was waiting at my gate in Charlotte, and I could tell the skies were looking a little dark in one direction but clear in the other.  We boarded the plane like normal, and even had a few late boarders (I kind of blame them a little).  The flight attendant even walked through telling people we are about to shut the door so start shutting down electronics.  Next thing, another flight attendant says there is lightning and the ground crew has been sent inside.  About 5 minutes after that I hear the pilot step out and say we are going to have an extremely long delay.  They then made the decision to deplane us.  Now, there were 6 other flight who were boarding around the same time our flight boarded and no other flight deplaned.  I thought this was weird.  The storm came and left in about an hour.  Not bad.  The gate attendant told us to find our tickets or government IDs because we were about to start boarding.  Then about two minutes later the pilot and flight attendants walked off the plane with their bags.  Then we were told our flight has been canceled.  They wouldn’t give us any reason.

I was very nervous, because Michael and I had a baptism at 11AM the next morning.  The gate attendant told us to grab these cards with phone numbers and call to be rebooked.  I called the number got a person and then immediately the lady put me on hold for 30 minutes, before I finally just hung up.  I was sitting with a group of people from my flight and one guy was talking to the lady and then his call got dropped.  The cell service was HORRIBLE.  I heard several people complain their calls were getting dropped.  Finally, one of the guys went to the counter and complained and they told him that there was a customer service desk not far and they could help us.  This was after sitting trying to get a change for an hour.  Why they didn’t tell us this to begin with?  So, we walked down and the customer service lady told me the earliest they could book my was Sunday at 4:30.  ARE YOU JOKING? Two days!!!  Not acceptable.  She then checked other airlines while I proceeded to call American to get a flight held for the next morning.  Finally I asked the lady to check Tulsa or Little Rock.  They were about to book me to Little Rock that night.  I was just going to stay with my cousin in Little Rock and drive in the morning, but after talking to a bunch of people decided to drive that night with strangers.

I would have done anything to get home in time for that baptism.  See Michael and I were asked to be Godparents.  So, there was no way I was going to miss this.  My flight to Little Rock was delayed, and I didn’t make it home until 4AM.  I was exhausted, but home! Did I mention the airline didn’t comp for hotel rooms or car rentals?  No, they didn’t.  I will probably take the 2 hours drive to fly with American over reliving this experience.  On a very positive note, I met some great people and we all exchanged business cards.  Even though, everyone thinks I am crazy for riding with a complete stranger all the way from Little Rock to Fayetteville with a stop to drop off another stranger in Russellville, it was fine and it got me home.  Sorry for my rant about traveling, but this was by far the worst travel day I have ever had.

Week 13

I have figured out that I must take things day by day.  I have definitely been having more good days than bad days.  The sickness factor is less and less.  I can’t wait until it is completely gone! Nothing really new to report this week.  I go to the doctor tomorrow, so I know I will have more.  So, today I will show you the furniture we ordered.  We made a final decision and ordered on Friday.  I am so excited.  Michael wants to paint the room before the furniture comes in, so we are working on getting that decided and done.  If you don’t know me, I am OCD and everything will be done sooner rather than later.

We are going with Baby’s Dream-Renaissance Collection.  We are getting the crib, dresser, and night stand.  I am not a big fan of hutches.  I know a lot of people who like the hutch but I really think it is more girly and since we don’t know what we are having I am staying away from girly.  The deciding factor for us when picking out furniture was how it would look as a full size bed.  Considering the majority of the furniture’s life would be spent as a full size bed, we thought it was important.  Some of the cribs we looked at were very cute cribs and terrible looking beds.  We are happy with our decision and can’t wait to begin making more decision on our baby’s room.

Week 12

This week is going much better.  I am about to start my last week of the first trimester.  Everyone says I will feel so much better in the second trimester.  I am looking forward to having energy.  I am going on four days without getting sick.  That doesn’t mean I haven’t wanted to get sick, but I take this medicine the doctor gave me at night, that’s when it is the worst, and it makes a world of difference.  I have to travel for work in two weeks and I am hoping to be completely over this first trimester illness stuff before going.

I am looking forward to my doctor’s appointment next week.  It will be nice to hear the baby’s heartbeat again.  I guess it is reassurance that there is something inside.  I am not really showing.  So, sometimes it is hard imagine that I am actually pregnant.  I guess if I didn’t have tons of others symptoms I wouldn’t even know.  I saw this cartoon the other day of a woman with her shirt up and she was stick thin the caption said “If you look really, really close, you can see that I’m showing.” Now that about sums things up.

I have actually been doing more things.  Shopping outside of the internet has been fun.  I think Michael and I have actually decided on our baby’s furniture.  I am going to order it on Friday.  I know it seems early, but it can take 12 weeks for furniture to arrive.  Michael has also decided he wants to paint the room.  I was just going to leave it the light brown color it is, but he wants it to be some color.  I want it to be green or blue.  We will see! Maybe after I share the pictures of the furniture (maybe Friday once it is ordered) then I can start planning room colors.  The room needs to be painted prior to the furniture arriving.  Wow that all seems really real.

About Us

My photo
Michael and I have been together since 2006. We met in college at the University of Arkansas and began our life together. We bought a house and moved to Fayetteville from the Chicagoland area in November 2009. We were married in 2010 and had our first child, a boy, in 2013. Our favorite thing to do together is travel and we have gotten the opportunity to go to lots of fun places. We are working, breathing, playful parents. Our fur baby and child are the center of our crazy life, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
