I am a mutant

I finally gave up and went to the doctor on Friday. I have been having elbow pain for about a month and a half. I knew it was tennis elbow, and I knew it was from carrying around Mason…all 25lbs of him. I needed to go visit a physical therapist. In order to make that appointment I needed a referral from my doctor. I actually came in expecting a short appointment ending with them faxing over my referral. What I did not expect is what happened next.

The doctor wanted to get an x-ray just to ensure I did not have a broken bone. This was probably from the fact that I wanted to swing at her head when she touched a certain part of my elbow. I described the pain and problems, and she just wanted to be certain and sent me down to get an x-ray. She also told me I could leave after and she would call me with the results. The x-ray tech asked me to wait a minute to check the film to make sure she got good shots. I could hear her talking with the other tech, who asked if that was a fracture. Uh oh! She came back in and said something about going back upstairs to talk to the doctor. I told her, she had said I could leave. The look on the techs face said it all…and I said unless there is a reason I should stay. She called the doctor who wanted me to wait until a radiologist could review the films. I was almost panicking. I had no idea what she saw…a fracture…bone cancer. I mean every scenario was running through my mind. The look on her face was worry. She then came out and told me the radiologist wanted someone else to take a look and they would call me. At that point I was thinking what the heck is wrong with me?

Before I made it home, the nurse was calling me. She told me that I had an extra bone in my elbow. What What? An extra bone? Well that explains the strange look on the x-ray techs face. Who has an extra bone? Me! Apparently it is called a sesamoid bone. When you have this extra bone it can cause increased pain when one gets tennis elbow. My head was spinning. I am going to Physical Therapy next week (unless I am on the road for work). I am hoping the PT person can give me more information. I Google this bone. The nurse said some people have an extra rib or extra bone in their foot…I have it in my arm. She said on the positive note…if you break it you have an extra. Haha.

This is the image from Google.

I am going to try and get a copy of my x-ray.  Until then, we can just refer to me as a Mutant. Or as Michael said I am a sign of evolution. Maybe we need this extra bone in the future. Got to love that thought process.

Is it April yet?

Can we just skip over March and head straight into April? I am ready for Spring. I want to create some planters for around our pool area. I want to take nightly walks around the block. I am ready for Spring!

I am spending most of the month of March on the road away from my hubby and baby. I am not looking forward to that at all. It will be good trips for work, but just not looking forward to being gone. Currently it is up to 3 weeks. I got one more open week in March, anyone want to book me on that week too.

April will bring Spring weather, and my 30th Birthday! Some of our friends and Michael and I are taking a birthday bash weekend to Vegas. I share my birthday with one of my husband’s best friends. He will be 30 too! We have booked our trip but are in the process of planning shows and dinners. Anyone got any suggestions for dinner places? The last time I went to Vegas was for my bachelorette party. This birthday bash will probably be crazier than my bachelorette party. I am hoping for relaxing by the pool, a few shows, and some really great eats.

Mason 13 Months

20140207_113847Learning to feed ourselves.20140211_181133

A few weeks late but oh well. No more stickers for this little guy, but I still want to be able to remember everything I can. These first few years they change so fast and gain so much new knowledge, I want to hold on to it all.

Weight: We don’t get weighed again until April, but my hurting elbow says he definitely weighs more.

Height: I don’t think he has really grown in height much. Maybe 31.5”

Clothes: We are wearing all 18 month clothes. I am really hoping these last a long time. The problem I will have is the change in seasons from winter to spring.

Eats: He loves to try all food. He tried salmon this last month and liked it. We have also tried shrimp no allergic reaction. YAY!

Sleeps: We sleep now from 7-6:30. He is going down so easy and he is not really wanting to be rocked anymore Sad smile. Last night I just laid him straight into his crib and he just rolled over stuck the butt in the air and past out.

What he is enjoying: He is starting to try running. He chases Gabby or at least tries to chase her. It is very cute. We have had warmer weather lately, which mean walks in the wagon and he loves being outside. 20140216_172050

Teeth: 10! How is it we gained 3 teeth in the last month. Top two molars came in and his bottom right lateral.

Talking: He actually said THANK YOU!!! It melted my heart. I handed him his cup and he said Tank You. The teacher and I both looked at each other and laughed. He is trying to say so much more. Bubble, bath, book, ball, Nana, Papaw.

Man Crush Monday

In honor of Valentine’s Day being last Friday, I am going to show of my Man Crush EVERY Monday. My man crush is very special. He is a wonderful husband and father. He supports me and allows me to have the career I want. He encourages me to be my best and because of him I know I am. He is the best Daddy to Mason I could ever ask for. They have a very special love and bond. He takes good care of him when I have to travel for work and never complains. I think Mason has a close relationship to Michael because of my time on the road, and even though it makes me so sad to be away from Mason and Michael, it is the best feeling in the world knowing they are getting a special time together.

Valentine’s Day

My babies are here today to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day! PhotoGrid_1392393619619I love these pictures of my little man. The top two are his reaction to the flash. He always closes his eyes, which is why most of my pictures are blurry these days…blurry arms or closed eyes. I thought this outfit was cute. PhotoGrid_1392394624998I also have to send some love to my love. We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. Who wants to fight crowds and long waits at restaurants? Not us. That’s why I love him. We don’t need a holiday to say I love you. We do that daily. Love Love him more than anything!CrestedButte_01_09_2012_138.NEF

For me, today is not just Valentine’s Day. 5 years ago today, my Granny past away. Unfortunately, it put a little damper on the day and I will always take a moment today to think of her. I will remember exactly what I was doing the day I found out. I was having lunch at the T-Rex Grill at Copper Mountain, I called my Dad to tell him where I was, because the last time I had been there was with him. Bad time to tell your daughter bad news, but it happened and I needed to know. I was close to my Granny and loved her deeply. I am sad she is gone and that Mason does not get to know her, but through memories. She will forever be important to me and I will always remember her for saying whatever was on her mind and being very opinionated. *wonder where I get it.

Friends and Birthdays!!!

Happy 30th to my BESTIE Veronica!!!! I can’t believe you are 30! HAHA!!!! I have 2 more months before I turn 30 so I can laugh at you OLD LADY!! We have been friends since we were 14 years young, which means you know all of my dirty secrets and I know yours. I definitely don’t feel like we are old enough to be marry and have kids especially when we get together and giggle and laugh the night away or at least until 11pm…and crash.HawaiiFamilyTrip_10-16-11_3976.NEFI love this picture that my husband caught back in October. It says a lot about our friendship. Michael, of course, thought it looked like we were about to kiss. Telling secrets and laughing…come on hubby. When Michael married me, he did not know what that meant was marrying Veronica too. He now knows that she knows everything about everything. She is one of the few people that we can get real real about anything, but that is what a best friend is for. I can’t tell you how many phone calls have start…OKAY, have you ever or how the hell do I deal with…It is always honest answers. MasonAllen_10_19_2013_3519.NEFI have to share this picture as well. Me with my two best friends! Always laughing when we are all together. I love that no matter how far away we all are from each other our relationships have not change.DSC_8072

Allergic Reactions

This week is going to be a long week. A few weeks ago, Mason had an allergic reaction at school. I got a call and they said within 5 minutes of giving him lunch he started breaking out in a rash. Now, I have allergies so I didn’t panic. Mason has had a few reactions to items like strawberries and we think to cinnamon. I grabbed the Benadryl and went to school. After giving him medicine and noticing the rash was pretty much all over his face, I decided to take him home and monitor him. I knew he would probably sleep most of the day away, but since it was all over his face I wanted to make sure it did not get worse.

Here is what it looked like at school. It is hard to tell because it is blurry, but it was all around his mouth and on his cheeks.IMG_20140129_122942This is what it looked like at home, after about an hour. Not looking much better. IMG_20140129_125455We went to Walmart later that night and Mason started breaking out again. This time he had bumps on his lips. Poor baby. I went home and sanitized ALL of his pacifiers. I think whatever he was having a reaction to was on it. 20140129_170418I called his doctor. I mainly wanted a second opinion. I was scratching my head. Everything he had for lunch that day, he had had prior. I am not sure if someone at school has a cat and he is allergic to that or something. Needless to say the doctor referred us to an allergist. I am so nervous about taking him. We go this Wednesday. It will be a 2 hour appointment. I am hoping they will not do a scratch test and they will just take blood, but we will see what the doctor will suggest. It is going to scary for a toddler I am sure, plus spending 2 hours trying to talk to a doctor while entertaining a toddler should be fun.

I have lived with allergies and asthma my whole life. I have not let it slow me down. I am hoping that whatever Mason is allergic to won’t long term affect his life. I don’t want him to have to or for us to have to check the backs of every box. I don’t want to have to ask, what is this cooked in every time we go out to eat. Please keep us in your thoughts this week that it is a simple allergy and that this is not the start of more to come.

Snow Days

I am so over winter. I love winter. I love snow. I do not love snow in Arkansas. People panic, the city shuts down, and people cannot drive in it!! I have lived in the midwest where snow is a part of life, I know how to drive in it and the one thing that drives me insane are the darn trucks and 4wd vehicles who think that just because they have 4wd or AWD that means they can drive normal. I have AWD and I don’t drive fast I don’t ride on someone who is driving 5mph, and I don’t slide into the ditch. People out there with 4wd or AWD your AWD does NOTHING on ice. Okay, so slow your roll and quick being in such a hurry. There is my two cents gripe for the day.

I do love playing in the snow with my family. I love watching Mason’s face and Gabby’s running through the snow. It makes me happy to see them so happy. I think the snow makes for some very pretty scenery.  I stopped Monday morning and took this picture after dropping Mason off at his school. This was snow and frost making a beautiful morning drive.  20140203_080640 What to do when you are trapped at home with a toddler? Take lots of videos and pictures of Mason playing. He has changed so much in the last month. We are coming up fast on his 13th month on this earth and he is getting such a little fun personality. He is starting to get his feelings hurts and he is starting to act out when I tell him no. He will cry every time I say no, but at the same time all I have to do is give him a look and he will smile the biggest smile ever. He is trying to start running. RUNNING! He is giving hugs on command. He is just a big loveable mess.

Mason is learning to blow. Listen carefully and you can hear it.
Vroom Vroom.

I should add that in the bottom video, Mason gets into and out of that wagon on his own and it definitely has an image showing kids should not ride in the wagon. Oh well. He will stand up in the wagon from time to time and all we have to do is tell him to sit on his bottom and he does it. He is also looking to say Vroom Vroom. It is cute to watch that huge smile on his face when we play wagon rides.

About Us

My photo
Michael and I have been together since 2006. We met in college at the University of Arkansas and began our life together. We bought a house and moved to Fayetteville from the Chicagoland area in November 2009. We were married in 2010 and had our first child, a boy, in 2013. Our favorite thing to do together is travel and we have gotten the opportunity to go to lots of fun places. We are working, breathing, playful parents. Our fur baby and child are the center of our crazy life, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
